What Is A Dyson 360?

The Dyson 360 Eye is a small robotic vacuum that moves and cleans independently. It uses infrared sensors and a 360-degree camera to map out the most efficient and effective way to clean any given room, moving in concentric squares along through the space. Other than an outlet for its charging dock, it rarely needs any help or work from consumers- it propels itself through the home using its sensors and camera to avoid furniture, stairs, and other hazards.

Product Specs

This self-propelled vacuum includes a 360-degree camera, enabling the Dyson 360 Eye to see and register any and all hazards in its way and to enable it to move around rooms of any size and shape. The V2 motor is powerful, spinning 78,000 times per minute, according to Dyson.

The machine can also connect to WiFi, allowing consumers to connect with their Dyson 360 Eye from anywhere and monitor its cleaning progress and location.

Ease of Use

Overall, the Dyson 360 Eye is easy to use; just charge it, turn it on, and it's good to go. However, when it comes to cleaning the machine, it gets a little more difficult. The bin is on the back of the machine, making it impossible to access and remove the bin when the vacuum is on the charging dock. While the filter is easier to remove, it is tricky to replace, requiring a practiced slide from the top of the machine after cleaning.

The Dyson app is fairly basic; while the Dyson 360 Eye is trackable from the app and can be started, stopped, and paused, it is not possible to remotely control the vacuum. However, the simplicity of the app makes it easy to use- just create an account, select the type of machine, and then select your specific machine while it is in the charging dock.

Assembly Time

The only assembly needed to use the Dyson 360 Eye is preparing the space to be vacuumed, setting up the charging dock, and charging the vacuum.

Design Quality

At 4.72 inches high, the Dyson 360 Eye is taller than other robotic vacuums on the market. The charging dock for this vacuum is also small and foldable, making it easy to store. However, it is not possible to access and remove the bin when the vacuum is charging due to the location of the bin.

The treads on the Dyson 360 Eye are thick and durable, making it easy for the vacuum to maneuver over cords and transition between different floor types.

Warranty

A newly purchased Dyson 360 Eye is guaranteed by Dyson for 2 years. The guarantee includes free parts and labor as well as machine replacement if it can't be fixed. It also includes phone and live chat options for quick fixes and questions.

  • Classic Dyson look
  • WiFi-enabled control

CONS

  • 45 minute run time

Features

The Neato Botvac Connected is the latest in a line of similar Botvac robot vacuums, but it is the first Botvac with app connectivity, enabling users to control and run the vacuum remotely. When it begins to clean a room, it first navigates around the perimeter, scanning for any furniture or large objects. After the edges of the room are finished, it makes its way through the rest of the room in parallel lines before returning to the charging dock.

Featuring a unique "D" shape, the Botvac is able to maneuver into and around corners differently than other circular robotic vacuums.

The Botvac Connected also offers two different cleaning options: full-powered Turbo and battery-saving Eco. The cleaning power can be changed from the app.

Ease of Use

The Neato Botvac Connected is generally easy to use- charge the machine and let it run. However, there were some floor sensor issues with early models of the device that Neato claims have been fixed in the current units.

The Neato app is easy to use and quick to set up. Simply activate the WiFi radio on the vacuum on your phone, download and enter the app, reconnect to your home WiFi, and start exploring after the download and connections are finished. The app does not give a lot of information- no statistics about cleaning times and no specific information about possible issues.

Assembly Time

The only assembly needed to use the Neato Botvac Connected is preparing the space to be vacuumed, setting up the charging dock, and charging the vacuum.

Design Quality

The bin is easily accessible when the vacuum is docked on the charging station. At 3.9 inches tall, it is a little shorter than the Dyson 360 Eye, but a bit taller than other models. It also includes a handy carrying handle.

The treads and rotating brush on the Botvac are not as durable as those on the Dyson 360 and the brush may occasionally become tangled or dislodged.

  • Large capacity (0.7 liters)
  • Most effective in pickup as compared to other similar machines

Features

The Roomba robot vacuum was the first in the market, and this device is one of Roomba's mid-range WiFi connected products. It features two roller brushes and the ability to program in one virtual wall around especially fragile items or pieces of furniture.

The Roomba 960 prides itself on its ability to maneuver around furniture and other floor-level hazards better than other robot vacuum products. As it is one product in a range of other robot vacuums, it has fewer first-time kinks to work out than some of the others on the market. Consumers who have used Roomba robot vacuums before will be familiar with the design, settings, and the app of this product.

Ease of Use

Like the other robot vacuums, the Roomba 960 is easy to use;  after it is charged, it is ready to use. The dustbin is conveniently located on the back of the machine, making it easy to remove and replace while charging.

The app connected to the Roomba 960 is easy to download and is the same app as all other Roomba products. The app enables users to remotely control how many times the Roomba cleans a certain room and stores data about where and how often each room has been cleaned, eliminating questions of coverage.

Assembly Time

The Roomba 960 needs virtually no assembly time; it just needs to be charged. To use the app, download and connect to your machine and then creation of virtual walls and access to map and cleaning data is easy and quick.

Design Quality

The bin is easily accessible when the vacuum is on the charging dock. The Roomba 960 features the classic circular design and is lighter gray that the Roomba 980 more powerful model.

Features

The Ecovacs Deebot N79S is the most affordable robotic vacuum on our list. At around $230 on Amazon, the vacuum features a small remote allowing the user to control the direction of the vacuum while cleaning, direct it back to its charging dock, schedule cleanings, and enable WiFi connection. Although it includes a remote, there is still an app users can download to track the vacuum's progress and use to schedule cleanings.

In some field testing, the Ecovacs Deebot vacuum was also able to pick up items larger than expected, such as a USB drive. This is both impressive and dangerous. In one way, it shows the power of the vacuum; and in another way, it demonstrates the need for a relatively hazard-free cleaning zone.

Ease of Use

Emptying the bin is easy when the machine is charging. While the vacuum has occasional problems maneuvering between different floor types, it is programmed to beep loudly to alert users of any issues. It is also possible to schedule cleanings.

The app is notoriously difficult to install, requiring a manual connection between the phone and the vacuum. However, the app does tell users the amount of battery left in the vacuum and allows steering in addition to changes in cleaning mode.

Assembly Time

The only assembly required is setting up the charging dock, charging the vacuum, downloading the app, and connecting the app to the machine, which may take time.

Design Quality

The Ecovac is only 3.3 inches high, giving it the ability to slip under pieces of furniture and clean nearly everywhere. The bin is also on the back of the machine making removal and replacement easy when it is charging. Like most robot vacuums, it is circular and is a dark brown color.

Warranty

1-year limited warranty

PROS

  • 95 minute runtime
  • 3 different cleaning modes
  • Light (7 pounds)
  • WiFi enabled control

CONS

  • Loud
  • More cited issues with the machine getting stuck due to navigation and entanglement than comparable brands
  • Small capacity (0.45 liters)

Conclusion

While there are is a wide array of robot vacuum products on the market, the Dyson 360 generally holds it own. It does not have the efficiency of the Neato Botvac or the app-provided cleaning information of the Roomba 960, and at nearly $1000, it is the most expensive model we analyzed. However, it does offer the longest and most extensive warranty of any of the vacuums on the list, so the hefty price tag comes with benefits. It also is louder than comparable brands and has a smaller, less conveniently accessible dustbin. Overall, we give the Dyson 360 Eye a rating of 2 stars based on decent performance, size, warranty, and price.
