Bamboo Floor Cleaning – Daily Cleaning Steps – Commercial

For many commercial facilities that have bamboo floors, their facilities managers are somewhat shocked to find out that bamboo is actually a wood floor. Since bamboo floors are the same as wood a misunderstanding is that bamboo floors are difficult to clean and maintain. But in realty this misconception is not true and as long as a commercial account understands how to maintain and clean a wood floor than bamboo floor cleaning is easy. However some precautions need to be taken when performing bamboo floor cleaning. Using the correct tools, supplies, equipment and cleaning products will allow the commercial end-user to avoid issues and problems with bamboo floor cleaning.

Note: Whenever cleaning any wood or bamboo floors, Do Not over wet bamboo floors. Bamboo like wood hates water.

 

Bamboo Floor Cleaning – Routine Cleaning Procedures

 

Bamboo Floor Cleaning – Daily Cleaning

  • Dust mop floor with untreated dust mop to remove most of the surface dust. However, microfiber dust mops are available and are the recommend tool for this procedure. Remove gum and other debris adhered to the floor with a Blunt Plastic Scraper. Do Not over scrape or apply to much pressure. Doing so may damage the finish coating of the bamboo floor.
     
  • Use a dry vacuum to vacuum entrance matting. A vacuum with a beater brush is the preferred equipment.
     
  • Clean individual spots and stains by spot damp mopping with a microfiber flat mop. Allow to dry thoroughly. Use professional grade Bamboo or Hardwood Floor Cleaner Used according to label directions. Remove black marks with light duty white pad or tennis ball. 
     
    Using an Automatic Scrubber:
    In the event the bamboo floor area to be cleaned is a large area that requires a faster cleaning process due to limited time or restrictions on labor, an automatic scrubber can be used but with the cleaning solution value opened at the lowest possible setting to accomplish the cleaning task. Following this recommendation will assist in reducing the risk of over wetting the bamboo floor and the chance for damage that can occur from over wetting.

 

Bamboo Floor Cleaning – Weekly Cleaning

 

Note: This procedure may be used daily if high foot traffic patterns cause high soil levels

  • Dust mop floor with untreated dust mop to remove most of the surface dust. However, microfiber dust mops are available and are the recommend tool for this procedure. Remove gum and other debris adhered to the floor with a Blunt Plastic Scraper. Do Not over scrape or apply to much pressure. Doing so may damage the finish coating of the bamboo floor. Remove black marks with light duty white pad or tennis ball.
     
  • If entrance matting is removable, unload soil from entrance matting. If not, utilize the dry vacuum procedure above.
     
  • Damp mop entire floor using a quality microfiber flat mop system. A quality microfiber system is the key to delivering high performance results with this cleaning procedure.  Use professional grade Bamboo or Hardwood Floor Cleaner according to label directions. 
     
    Using an Automatic Scrubber:

    Special Note: Some may disagree because the automatic scrubber will pick up the solution within a second or two but in real life situations, there will always be a squeegee’s and vacuum’s that are not working perfectly and this can cause water puddles or trails on the wood floor. So, to extend the life of the bamboo floor use an automatic scrubber  that is properly maintain and always in good working order to avoid leaving excessive water on the bamboo floor.

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE:  Always post Wet Floor signs whenever using liquids on floors including plain water.  Also, always wear appropriate personal protective gear (goggles, gloves, proper protective footwear and aprons) when dealing with cleaning chemicals.
